challenge.
Balancing originality with iconic imagery
Redesigning posters for cult horror films means walking a fine line: staying true to what fans remember while still offering a fresh visual interpretation. Capturing the essence of The Shining or Alien: Covenant without relying too heavily on cliché visuals posed a creative constraint.
Evoking emotion through layout
Horror relies heavily on atmosphere. Translating fear, suspense, or dread into still visuals—especially through layout—required a strategic use of space, contrast, and tension.
Respecting cinematic tone and directorial intent
Each film has a distinct style—Kubrick’s psychological eeriness vs. Fede Álvarez’s visceral brutality, for instance. Reflecting those nuances in the redesigns demanded research and a tailored visual approach for each poster.
Limited source materials and copyright considerations
Since the images were sourced from film-grab.com, working with pre-existing stills meant navigating limitations in resolution, composition, and editing flexibility—all while ensuring ethical and artistic use of the material.
