The Challenge
When I joined the Built With Science social team as a consultant, their content was performing consistently well — averaging 1M views per post — but engagement had plateaued. The goal was to revitalize the feed with educational visuals that were not only scientifically accurate but also visually digestible and shareable.
The Idea
I designed an infographic post titled “Calories & Protein in Different Cuts of Steak” to simplify complex nutritional data through clean composition, contrast, and minimal typography. The concept used:
A dark, premium background to make textures stand out.
A linear layout of steak cuts with annotated calorie/protein data.
A single accent color (blue) from the brand palette to guide the eye and build visual hierarchy.
The Results
The post reached 13.3 million views, exceeding the page’s top-performing average (≈1M) by over 1200%, and became Built With Science’s most-viewed post of the quarter.
This performance spike validated a new direction for the brand’s content: clarity over complexity and visual authority over text density — leading to the adoption of a new design framework for future nutrition infographics.
